A Long Ride to Laramie: Beginnings
Amos Moss was only fourteen when he killed the six Union Raiders that had murdered his best friends. Fleeing Arkansas and the war-torn remains of the Confederacy, he would follow the raildroad across the plains. He found work grading track and fighting the Indians who would stop the Iron Horse. His shooting ability earned him a job with a young Bill Cody as a meat hunter. In 1868, the rails came to Laramie and Amos was just ahead of them. By 1870, he was learning a trade, had made some friends, and figured to settle down. He would not believe that a year later his best friends would include a Scottish giant, and Irish city boy turned cowhand, and Sheep-Eater Indian educated at Cambridge. Most of all he would not believe that he would accidentally become a range detective for one of the most powerful men in the area. And that was just the beginning of the adventures...
