I was born and grew up in Cody, Wyoming and spent most of the sixty-odd years of my life in the Bighorn Basin. I attended Junior College in Powell and the University of Wyoming in Laramie. I lived and worked in Saratoga, Lander, Rock Springs and Powell, Wyoming, as well as Winter Park, Fort Collins and Denver, Colorado, before returning to Park County, Wyoming. I am the third generation of five that are native Wyomingites, an endangered species, and something I am quite proud of. I have drawn greatly from personal experience and from stories told to me by my various grandparents, relatives, friends and acquaintances.  I was privileged to hear so many stories and now I get to use them in my stories.

I had my first horse at the age of two and have ridden most of my life. I have fished and explored the Medicine Bow Mountains, crossed the Laramie Plains, followed the Platte River, and have traveled between Laramie and Denver and across Interstate 80 more times than I can remember. I even had a meal or two at The Virginian Hotel in Medicine Bow. I present these things not to brag, but to demonstrate that I have actually been involved with or have knowledge of the country, events and unpredictable Wyoming weather that are used within the stories.

Wyoming is wide open, windy, unpredictable, sometimes bleak and often lonely. Those of us who grew up here accept her for what she is and see her beauty. We are glad to have a few true friends, a good gun, and a trustworthy horse. I tried to convey these things in the stories. This book, appropriately named Beginnings, is the first one of several that will follow the life of Amos Moss, and some of the other characters, as well as the development of this part of the American west. I had fun writing it and I truly hope you enjoy reading it. Finally, this is for Kaye, Mom, family and friends, thank you.
